Data request · Citizen request
To whom it may concern, I hope this e-mail finds you well. I have to come up with a research supported by data. I am writing to you as I would really like to do my research paper on how the presence of places of worship influences social cohesion in New York City (in line with Putnam’s argument). Ho
Hello, The data you've requested can be found here: http://www1.nyc.gov/site/planning/data-maps/open-d... You can use either PLUTO or MapPLUTO. The differences between them are; 1) MapPLUTO is a spatial dataset while PLUTO is tabular, 2) MapPLUTO is released as 5 separate shapefiles (1 for each Borough) while PLUTO has the entire City combined To find tax lots (or parcels) containing houses of worship, you need to filter the data using the 'Building Class' field. Any lot that starts with "M" is a house of worship. You can further filter them down by specific types of house of worship: M. CHURCHES, SYNAGOGUES, ETC. 1. Church, Synagogue, Chapel 2. Mission House (Non-Residential) 3. Parsonage, Rectory 4. Convents 9. Miscellaneous (note: church = M1, parsonage = M3, convent = M4, etc.) If you have additional questions regarding PLUTO/MapPLUTO please consult the data dictionary which can will answer most of your questions: http://www1.nyc.gov/assets/planning/download/pdf/d... Thank you, - NYC Open Data
